In August, Città della Pieve recounts the ancient bull hunt with the Palio dei Terzieri.
Appointed for the first time in 1250, the Terzieri originate from the subdivision of the city into three parts.
The urban layout, which dates back to the municipal era recalls an eagle whose parts coincide precisely with the three Terzieri: the head corresponds to the Terziere Castello (aristocracy), to the belly the Terziere Borgo Dentro (bourgeoisie), to the wing – Terziere Casalino (farmers) queues.
On the day of the Palio, the Cavalieri dei Terzieri challenge each other in the archery competition: the shooters must hit the mobile shapes in the shape of a Chianina bull, mounted on a single carousel that increases in speed every turn.
The race is preceded by a historical procession of over 800 people including ladies, knights, fire eaters, commoners, and notables who parade through the main streets of the center of the splendid city of Perugino.
